Contentteller 3.0.0 is now finally available in the customers area and brings a huge number of unique features.

The probably most significant and exciting change is the new publish module, a fully configurable content module that replaces all exiting content modules. It is not only a replacement for existing modules but also give you the ability to create your very own content types.

Then we have the Response module. Response is basically a module for user submitted content such as comments or discussions. It is fully configurable and supports custom content types as well.

The new Instant Style editor allows you to create a unique style within minutes based on the latest standards in web development such as dark mode.

As with the predecessors Contentteller 3 has full multisite support and supports an unlimited number of websites from the same installation. There are now also various caching options for high traffic websites such as APCu cache, Memcached, or Redis as well database support for SQLite, MariaDB/MySQL, and PostgreSQL.

A never seen before level of security. Contentteller makes it much more difficult for hackers to compromise the website with it’s encryption and content validation features. Critical personal data such as email addresses are also stored encrypted rendering any leaked SQL dumps useless.

Support and Versioning explained

Each major (e.g. 3.0.x) and minor (e.g. 3.1.x) release is supported 10 years after its initial release with updates. In this case, the Contentteller 3.0 series is supported until 29th August 2030 with patch releases such as 3.0.1, 3.0.2, 3.0.3 etc.

Patch releases can be easily installed over the Contentteller admin section by clicking a button. No FTP upload required. You need to have an active subscription to access the updates. This is a huge advantage after you can run Contentteller on the same hardware/software for 10 years without to worry about incompatibilities due to higher system requirements.

Upgrading from 3.0.x to a new minor (e.g. 3.1.x) or major (e.g. 4.0.x) releases will require a manual update. Minor releases should be more and less fairly painless with some slight work necessary while major releases usual require more preparations and also introduces new incompatibilities and requirements.

What's next?

The development of the Contentteller 3.1.0 series will start tomorrow. Contentteller 3.1.0 is planned for a release next year and will introduce new features and other enhancements. Smaller patch releases such as 3.0.1 will be released on a frequently base. Patch releases for the 3.0 series contains backported bugfixes and other smaller enhancements from the 3.1 series.
