Is the Contentteller project dead? It's been a long time, and the new version can't be seen.

Still in internal testing. I will upgrade the first production site (most likely  http://www.warp2search.net/) in the next couple of weeks to the 3.0 development snapshot and then see how it performs under real traffic.

A beta will be probably available in the late second half of 2015

Will it be possible to update from version 2.1.x?

Yes, it is possible to import the data (news/files/pages etc.) from 2.1.x. However, the templates are no longer compatible.

Yes, there will be version 2.1.19 later this or early next month but this is only a minor release fixing a few issues.

A bigger release (3.0) is also in development but it is basically a rewrite from scratch using latest technology:
