Great, will you be providing an upgrade guide for 2.1.x users?

Upgrading from an older 2.1 version to 2.1.20 should be fairly easy. Basically, you need to upload the new version to your webspace and then run yourdomain/cadmin/cupgrade.php to update the database and the templates.
However, I highly recommend that you do a full backup before upgrading the website, especially if you have some customization installed.

The new releases are coming very likely tomorrow. There are actually two new releases: Contentteller 3.0.0 and 2.1.20.
The 2.1.20 release comes with 50 changes including PHP 7.4 support. The old 2.1 series remains supported until 26th April 2022 (=12 years after its initial release).

I just moved contentteller.com to a new server. I am working right now on the final preparations for the 3.0 launch. I hope to get everything finished this weekend.

Unfortunately, there were some last minute issues with the style editor but now everything is back on track and work as expected.
https://www.warp2search.net is now running the final version (build 2268) of Contentteller 3.0. The public release is coming in a couple of days along with the launch of the new contentteller.com website.

Contentteller 3 is a very different codebase and needs a full import.
In order to upgrade from Contentteller 2 to 3 you need to setup a fresh Contentteller 3 installation and then import the data over the Acquire import tool. Basically, it is a parallel installation while your old Contentteller 2 installation is running.
This is how the import tool look like:
This tool can also convert legacy charset encodings such as ISO-8859-1 or latin1 to UTF-8 during the import.
Once everything is configured, you can import the data from the old Contentteller 2.x database:

Good to hear. Will the upgrade process be fairly pain-free?
Should we be looking out for anything since this is a major release?

I am working on the final preparations for the Contentteller 3 launch. The software itself is ready but the new Contentteller homepage need still some work and testing.

The odyssey will end very soon. Right now it look like that the final version will be ready later this month or early next month. The new Contentteller homepage is now also 98% finished.
Testing took much longer than expected after Contentteller 3 has a huge feature set. It comes with 14 content types from pages, news, files, reviews, FAQs, galleries, blog, howtos, weblinks, advertorials to discussions, bug tracker, user submitted articles, and polls.

In a couple of weeks. The new code base is code complete. I mainly work now on the new contentteller.com website and the documentation.
https://www.ntcompatible.com and https://www.linuxcompatible.org are now also running the latest build of Contentteller 3

Probably in this quarter. The current build (1835) of Contentteller 3 is code complete and very close to a release.
The only major thing left is the documentation. I am doing in the next couple of weeks some final testings while working on the documentation. If everything goes well, contentteller.com will be upgraded and the release become available for all customers.
Here some screenshots (dashboard, admin search, instant styles editor, template merge mode, news editor) from the admin section of the current build:
The installer has also some surprises:

I don't post often but I've been a user of first storyteller and now contentteller for a long time!
Just want you to know I love it and when CT3 comes out you'll be collecting another fee!

No, only a few has been updated in the files module. I am currently looking into it if I can release all or at least most of the included updates as separate update files.

All files will be new in CT 2.1.20? I am asking because some files (eg in "modules / files /") I edited (sorting files, changes in teaserimage from another topic, etc.).

Contentteller 2.1.20 has to wait a few more days after I am still backporting features from the 3.x branch to the 2.x branch. This takes much longer then expected after I basically need to redevelop them.

Any information about CT3? Warp2search is available on CT3, but it's hard to see how this system and other modules look - why is the font so huge?
I will post more information as soon we get closer to the public beta. Internal testing is about 50% done.
In another topic there was information that CT 2.1.20 will be available at the beginning of April, and it still does not exist.
Contentteller 2.1.20 is now planned for next week. I added a few more features.

The internal testing is 1-2 weeks away. If everything goes well, you may see the public beta most likely in the second quarter. I can confirm that Contentteller 3 is definitely coming out this year.
An updated Contentteller 2.1.20 is also in testing.

Yes. It is easily possible to fully customize any content type in CT3

The interface looks great. Looking forward to v3
One feature which would be useful is to have date/time modification to news stories - just like articles have. Will that be possible in v3?

It is actively in development and about 95% code complete. However, it has been delayed due to some last minute show stoppers. I will post an update as soon the internal testing has started.

Thanks!

It's still a work in progress. Working right now on the integrated forums/comments module which is unfinished in some areas, for example attachments.
I will post an update as soon the code hit the first production website. Hopefully later this year. Any further delay would probably means more rewrites after I had to adapt new technologies, so I do my best to finish it.
Here a screenshot from the current dev build:
The admin interface is now pretty much finalized. It's overall much cleaner and easier to use then the old 2.x interface.

Thanks for the update... When do you thinking long term that 3.x will be released based upon this new information above?
There are multiple reasons for the delays.
The two most typical reasons are feature rewrites and untested (new) features. We had severals rewrites over the last couple of months. Contentteller 3 originally started with PHP 5.3 as minimum requirement, then PHP 5.4 and now PHP 5.6
There was a bigger rewrite back in October. Some wordpress sites on a friends server has been hacked. After analyzing the hack, I rewrote a larger part of the CT3 code base to fully remove the use of the PHP eval function.
The eval function is manily used in template engines (like in CT 2.x or XenForo) but also in hacker remote shells. You can basically write a remote shell with just one PHP line. Scary
There are a few features in CT3 that are unique. No other products have these things. The problem with brandnew features are that they need more testing. Sometimes they also get removed again.
One thing I want to avoid is releasing an unfinished product

It is still in progress but development is much slower then I originally expect it.
Can we expect in the future, the new version of Contentteller? The latest version has more than one year...
If so, is it planned any major changes?
