I would love the following additions to version 2 please:

1) Possible to have a mod-rewrite option to change story.php?id=16 into the title of the story - such-as-this-story-please.html

2) Speed up the system slightly - possible?

3) Different templates for different categories

4) Automatically give the option to place ad boxes or adsense codes in stories at a set number of paragraphs/lines of text.

5) Already replied to in another thread with a reply saying "possible, in version 2" - but will place it here as well - The ability to allow users to post news stories and choose the category for the story (plus make a selection from other fields)

This is, without a doubt, one of the best programs I have ever used.... Thanks so much Philipp!

A game/movie module (like iGaming or NCaster) would be nice.

Easy ability to add Podcasts would be nice.

1: localised versions, or being able to create/import language files. (I could help with the dutch file)

Languages files support is currently not part of the development version, but I consider to add this before the public beta version

2: a module to bulk upload images/downloads.

The upload function is ways different in 2.0. It is now much easier to upload multiple images for the same file.

Anyway, i would like a valid XHTML/CSS and 'no limit' template engine

The new templates are valid XHTML/CSS Smiling Face

What do you mean with a 'no limit' template engine?

Yes, the upgrade is quite easily because the upgrade script to 2.0 is an import script.

This script will import the data from your Storyteller 1.x installation to version 2.0 instead of upgrading your existing installation. That means you can run both versions during the upgrade phase.

Will 2.0 be an easy upgrade? I'm just starting to migrate my site to ST and I would hate to have to do a ton of work updating to 2.0 in a few months.

I few wishes for 2.x:

* Some kind of calendar function for the archives. I have news items going back to 2000, and the list is getting quite long. A real rough example is  here. Then clicking on the month would display the list of items for that month. Or maybe some kind of drop-down list...

* Some kind of filtering for the referrers lists. File all the google referrals under a single link, etc.. Another link for MSN, etc..

* A better plaintext editor. Smiling Face (HTML builder..)

No, there is no feature list yet because v2.0 is still in development. I will post more details as soon the beta is coming closer.

The interface looks very clean, i like it.

Is there a list anywhere of all the changes that are going to take place in v2.0?

I bought ST on at the end of December 2004. Will 2.0 be ready before 2006?

I hope so, but that depend on the release of the beta version.

If not, will i have to pay for the upgrade?

There is usual a $28/year fee to get access to the latest updates. However, I will make an exception with version 2.0. This release will be available for all license holders, even if the member area access is expired

Oh, and if you haven't could you implement PAD File polling so that instead of updating programs manually the CMS would just check periodically the PAD file on the publisher's website?

Something similar is already on the do list for the download module

The current 2.0 code base is progressing quite well. I guess a first beta release is finally coming this October.

No need to doing this with phpMyAdmin. Just check the bump option near the submit button in edit downloads.

I will look into it.

If you already had Firefox 1.0.1 listed you'd expect that when you update the file info, it shows up in the latest downloads but it doesn't. Would be great if you also added a module listing the latest updated files separately from the most recently new downloads added.

I have this on my front page template to allow people to search the stories directly from the frontpage:

<FORM action=  http://www.YOURSITE.COM/search.php method=post>
<INPUT name=query value="Search" size=15>
<input type="hidden" name="where" value="1">
<INPUT type=submit value=Go>
</FORM>
1 Re: Version 2 Wishlist :)

May I humbly suggest that you change the search form method to GET from POST (). Why? Because you can have Google style queries meaning users can bookmark a search or you can link to a search like this
http://www.esselbach.com/search.php?searchterm=cms (which you can't do right now; I could be mistaken, of course),
and you can also resubmit a search without getting the usual warnings about "resubmitting this information will possibly reveal you are fat, ugly and still live with your momma" Smiling Face . Also please make the search box available on the frontpage like the Google search box found on ntcompatible.com, instead of having the users go to a separate page to search, which literally drives them away from content.

Will there be a newsletter feature? I don't think there is one now and while you can use mailman it would be great to have this feature within ST and have it interact with downloads/articles/reviews/ instance so you could send a newsletter with the week's new files/ headlines manually or even better, send it automatically at a specified interval.

You could do the following for the smilie problem:
cadmin => Other/Configure Smilies => Edit

Then change the Smilie Command from ":p" to " Face with Stuck-Out Tongue"

Fix for smilie parsing, although it wouldn't hurt if it came up in 1.8.1

user:pass@server

the above is supposed to read user-colon-pass@server

A similar problem occurs frequently with the angry red smilie.

Allow for displayed administrator name to be different then the one used to login. Suppose I use admin as my administrator login. I may want to display a different name in the "posted by" section.

Mass remove for news, downloads and whatnot. Having to do 20 clicks to remove 10 stories is way annoying.

Show the category tree like this  http://www.file-portal.net/temp/categs.jpg.

Right now it's a royal pain to manage subcategories because you can't see the parent so if you have to add a download let's say in Internet->Mail tools you have to look up Mail tools by clicking m til you get it right, that is supposing you know exactly what it's called. Badly needed.

May I also suggest dropping the frames in the admin interface and replacing them with a menu of some kind? They make for a real clumsy navigation (sometimes I need to see the real address of the page I'm on and can't because all I see is the frameset URL) not to mention that sometimes when refreshing a POSTed page you get kicked to the login screen which appears in both frames; or that the left frame is still there when you logout.

Also show category path on the download details page and make each category clickable. Like this: Security->Spyware removal with item being a hyperlink to the category it represents.

PAD (portable application description) file import with the ability to set relationships between the nodes in the XML (PAD) file and the fields in the downloads section

This would be useful, especially with the upcoming database abstract layer. The main problem right now is that larger databases might get corrupted during the import/export, but I will look into it.

Most likely. However, you can already use Apache's own mod_rewrite engine with the current 1.7.2 release.
