I apologize in advance for this question, but I'm having a difficult time understanding the difference.

What is the difference between content, articles, news?

The content module is for static pages and forms, the articles module for longer multiple pages reviews and articles, and the news module for short news stories or blog entries.

Each module have a slightly different feature set optimized for its purpose. For example, the news module have a submission queue and import abilities while the articles module have page management.
