You can change the story title without any problems after it will change the title only in the newly published news story but not in the queue itself.

What if I modify the article titles after I "process them all"?

The import module will no longer recognize the news if you change it directly in the news queue.

The best way to process news is using the "Click here to process them all" option.

What I do is that I'll hit "import now"; go through the "Submission Queue"; edit the articles titles; and then check the articles for "Approval". If there's stories I don't want, then I'll check them "rejected.

After that, if I hit "import now" again, I'll find the same articles that I just "approved" or "rejected" in the queue. I believe this had been occurring since the beginning.
