Yes, vBulletin integration is supported. The article module is supporting multiple pages but not the news module.

In 2.0 you can set the article module as default module. This is useful if you run an articles based website. The news module on the other side is mainly for short news stories.

Hmm... The site I am planning to build has not only a vast news collection, but also actual library articles and books, an audio library, a video library, an image library.

I think the best is you wait for the first public beta (Test 1) later this month. This first test release include the news and content module and gives you an idea what is possible with the new version.

Audio titles often have associated audio versions, translations and transcriptions. I would like each translation to be an article on its own, but when an audio title is found, there should be links to its related transcriptions, translations and different audio renderings too.

This may be possible with a template modification. The new template system is much more powerful and allow even deeper modifications without modifing the underlaying code base.

I also wonder how efficient it would be to have an sql database handle media files...

Very efficient with modern versions (4.1, 5.0) of MySQL. The new version is actually doing this

So one photo could be linked to a news item, but it can also appear inside a theme-based album and it should be searchable. same with each type of media.

I could use a different "media library" type php module for media items, but then I would have to cross-link them into the articles and reviews...

Yes and no. The first test release will include two display options for the front page:
1) Content. In mode is mainly for business websites and allow adding a default content page as front page
2) News. This mode is mainly for news sites/portals like in the 1.x series

- Will I be able to upload large amounts of images to create albums on the fly?

No, you need to upload the images one by one. A news item or content page can have an unlimited number of images.

- What about audio/video/ other media?

You can attach any media type to a page or news item.

- Is it possible to create a 'parent' news item (Like a "today in history") that links to photos, videos, articles, etc?

Yes

- Can the items be longer such as large articles or even books with table-of-contents?

Yes, with the review module. The review module is most likely in the second test release.

For the end user or admin? The end user can search in Test 1 only news stories and comments. The admin control panel on the other side offers search features for every content or media. You can search content page, news stories, attachments, user avatars, or even web referrer.

2.Is that possible to make so that some sections of site like Articles or anything other can be accessed by users that admin aproved them?I mean registration on site open to all but some sections will be shown only to ppl that admin allow them to see them?

Not with the current version 1.8.2. However, this is a feature of the upcoming version 2.0.

3.Can the script be runned on server with SAFE MODE OFF?

Yes, the script can run with both safe mode = off and safe mode = on
