Please mark required fields and add some Ajax-based validation...

In the admin and the main website interface. It's bad enough that you only get told that you missed a field or that the password is wrong AFTER you submit, but you also have to return to the previous page and everything is wiped clean, meaning you have to start filling out the form all over again. It doesn't help that the application seems to be slower in version 2.1.14 than it was in 2.0.6. (I have the latter installed on the same server so I can tell).

I don't know, the application itself just seems to have gotten a bit slower over time, compared to the older versions.

It's not the compression. And I don't think it's the server either. I have several other applications installed and they are visibly faster.
Any specific page that is noticeably slower?
Wow. 3.0? No offense, I know it's a big app, but... how many years down the line is that?
Most likely next year, but it is not a full rewrite like the jump from Storyteller to Contentteller. The 3.0 release will mainly focus on new modules.

I will see what I can do for 2.2. The real big design update is planned for the 3.0 release.

Perhaps the GZIP compression is disabled? Website Settings => Main => GZIP HTML Output => Yes
