It would be great to have automatically have a WAP or Pocket PC version of the site autmatically so that people can view the site from their phone or PPC..

The new upload function is different than in Storyteller 1.x. For example: All attachments are grouped for each article or news story. There is now also a thumbnail preview for images.

I will post more images as soon the code base is nearing beta status

Actually, search engine friendly URLs look a bit different in Storyteller 2.0. However, there will be redirection scripts to keep your current URLs and enable search engines to re-index your website. The new version is highly search engine optimized.

What does the "file types" refer to? Can those who submit downloads upload files?

To the new attachment system. Yes, this will be possible but should be limited only to smaller files.

I personal can't wait to upgrade my own sites to the new version as well . Anyway, here are three full size screenshots from the new users module of the current development version:

There is no beta yet. The currently code is alpha quality again because I am working now on all modules simultaneously. The good news is that the first beta will be almost code complete and actually can fully replace Storyteller 1.x.

Yes, the upgrade path to 2.0 is painless. There will be an import script to import your existing Storyteller 1.x database to 2.0. That means you can run both versions during the upgrade phase without risking that something goes wrong during the update.

Storyteller 2.0 is primary a PHP 4 application. However, it will use some PHP 5 functions optionally.

Slowly. Unfortunately, the development takes much longer than expected. The main problem is that the new version is a complete rewrite from scratch. Each single module (e.g. news, content, forums etc.) will be rewritten and this takes some time.

I will post an update as soon the first milestone is reached.

I have used your freeware version previously with a gaming website, and now that I have a new site, I am even more interested in purchasing a license/ versus using a freeware version. My question would be this, is there a preset estimated date for the newest version 2.0 to be released?

Version 2.0 is currently under heavy development, but there is no ETA for the final version yet. I will post an official announcement along with a roadmap as soon the first internal private beta version is in testing.

This has been not decided yet. The 2.0 freeware version will be build after the third and final milestone release is available.
