May I suggest you use this (or consider) using for the next version of your CMS

 http://www.strictlycss.com/articles/article/40/the-only-css-layout-you-need

It seems to support 2 and three columns, wide and narrow designs by simply switching to a different css. It would be pretty nice for moving beyond table based layouts.

Actually, early versions of Contentteller 2.0 had no tables at all. I re-add them again as helpers after older versions of Internet Explorer had problems with the new table-less layout.
