I was able to reproduce this error on another cPanel machine and investigate this issue right now.

OK. Clean install with the Zend version, same problem. When clicking "next" for the first time in the browser -based part of the install, I get the same error mentioned above.

I don't know, I've only used ion cube versions so far and they worked fine.
I'll try the zend edition, see if it works.

Odd. The ionCube version seems to work fine here. Do your webhost have Zend Optimizer installed? In this case you could try the Zend version.
Preview 5 is still available at http://www.majorgeeks.com/Contentteller_Pro_d3901.html

I've tried it for the third time. It's still the same. I Deleted all the DB tables and the subfolder where i installed preview 5. It connects to the server, uploads everything, but then it when it loads in the browser and I click "next" for the first time it won't allow me to input the DB configuration, it just fails with the error above.
IIRC, after clicking next you would get to input the DB details, but unfortunately I can't test it anymore using preview 5, since unfortunately you removed it from the site, and I deleted it as well.

I assume you are doing a fresh install and have deleted the existing database?
In this case, you need to remove the previous configuration files (config.php, install.php) in your includes directory as well.

After the upload finishes, I go to the browser-based installation and I press "next" on the welcome page i get this:
Warning: [obfuscated]() [function.[obfuscated]]: Access denied for user 'MYUSERNAME'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /home/MYUSERNAME/public_html/ess20/classes/class_db_mysql.php on line 0
Warning: [obfuscated]() [function.[obfuscated]]: A link to the server could not be established in /home/MYUSERNAME/public_html/ess20/classes/class_db_mysql.php on line 0
So I get no chance to input the DB user/pass, and I can't go to the next step of the installation.
