An Outlook for 2007

Happy New Year everyone Smiling Face. This year will bring a few changes:

Storyteller becomes Contentteller

Storyteller will be re-branded to Contentteller. This is already a long time on my do list because the news/story module in the upcoming version 2.0 is only one of the optional modules. The default module is now the content module.

The module for the front page can be configured in 2.0 in config.php. For example, if you run a news website you can still choose news as default module.

The end of the freeware version

The freeware version will be discontinued later this month in favor of an encoded 30-day evaluation version. The original idea behind the freeware version was to have a free version for both evaluation and for users that were low on budget. It was originally planned to release even a freeware version of version 2.0.

However, I completely changed my mind because more and more users that asking for support are actually using pirated copies of the software. It seems that many people prefer the so-called nulled versions to the legal freeware version. Not only that the last pirated version was bought with a stolen credit card which is rather annoying because of the chargeback’s, the release group of this illegal version also removed all copyright notices including the “Powered by” notice from the script ;(

Contentteller 2.0 public beta test

I guess this is the most expected news of this posting Winking Face. You may know that Contentteller 2.0 is now a few weeks in private beta testing. During this time I realized that it is not easy to debug an applications of that size. The new version is basically a complete new and modular PHP application with hundreds of PHP scripts.

I decide to release the beta in multiple pieces to make the debugging easier. There are currently 4 test releases planned with each test release introduce a new module group. The first test release is focused on the news section and will include the news and article modules. Also included are the core modules such as content, templates or user management. The next test release will include the support section including the FAQ and trouble ticket system.

The public beta test will start in approximately 4-6 weeks. This beta will be made available to everyone registered on this website and is not only limited to current customers. All public test releases are encoded and will expire 120 days after their release. You will need either ionCube loader installed on your webserver or the  dl function enabled in order to run the beta. This 120 days limit will restart with every new test release.

Other things to come

Starting with version 1.8.3 in mid January there will be an optional Windows installer beside the classical zip/tar.gz archives. The Windows installer is making the installation much easier because it will automatically uploading the files to the server and set all needed permissions.

Here a quick status update. I hope to get the test release out this weekend. Unfortunately, I found new bugs every time I packaged a new build. I am already trying to release this since Tuesday Slightly Frowning Face

The first test release is coming most likely next week, but before everyone is getting too exciting about it, bear in mind that Test 1 is only 25% code complete. Any module that is not nearly finished is not included in this release.

The beta is making progress, but slower then expected. I may postpone some features that were original planned for the Test 1 release to get the release out within the next 2 weeks.

Both simultaneously? No, the is not possible but there are two other possibilities:

1) You can setup two separate parent channel/categories for English and Russian news

or

2) Two Contentteller installations that are using the same database. Up to 3 installations are allowed with the current 99$ license.

QUOTE:

There is a template translation tool in the current development build as part of the new template editor, so it is easily possible to create two template sets in different languages. While 1.x supports only a single template set, a website under the new version can have multiple template sets that are switch able on the fly.

And how about the content? Not only User Interface, but also the information. For example: news in Russian and the same news in English.

Can you briefly explain what kind of vBulletin integration are you planning for release 2.0 of your CMS? Thanks.

The integration is more enhanced over the old 1.x integration. For example: It is no longer necessary to upload an additional script (bbwrapper.php) to the web server. The entire integration can be configured in the new admin control panel. Another major change is that 2.0 are using a single login cookie for both Contentteller and vBulletin.

How about multi languages? For example: my content uses Russian and foreigners can read in English too.

You can do many things this it - but you should be a code programmer to do so. I'm looking for a cms solution where many of this things are set up at the start and whit modules. So I'm very interested to see youre v2 and what it can do!!

The news module of the current beta has 57 options alone, even someone without any HTML/PHP experience can do a lot in the new version.

So, for now I rely hope you can post some more screen shots of the content module and maybe tell me something more about the feature of the content modul and the other moduls.

I will post more information, as soon the public beta is getting closer. Keep an eye on this forum Winking Face

Hi P. This look great.

But, I want to ask you for an favor. I'm in the process whit my new site. And because you're v2.0 release has bin some time after (delayed) the first release date I had to try Article Manager 2 from Interactivetools. I'm working one the functianality and has'nt strat adapt it to my new design jet. You can see the progress her:  http://mfnnytt.modellflynytt.no/

But. AM2 isn't 100% what I'm looking for. You can do many things this it - but you should be a code programmer to do so. I'm looking for a cms solution where many of this things are set up at the start and whit modules. So I'm very interested to see youre v2 and what it can do!!

Maybe it had been possible to log on to a online beta just to see it you're v2 is the 100% program i'm looking for??
